I sometimes make these lamps from early electric toasters, with colored vellum inside. Here are several examples.

Remove the paper, and you get an interesting shadow on the wall.

I used aluminum screen and frosted mylar inside this next one, and painted it a metallic blue. It’s unusual in that the sides as well as the doors and top have a cutout design.

Suitable toasters are usually for sale on eBay, if you would like to acquire one. If you want it made into a lamp, please contact me before buying – some toasters work for this and some don’t.
