The next lamp was a new direction for me: out into the solar system. It’s made from an assortment of stainless steel objects I collected here and there over the course of a couple of years that one day began to talk to one another.

Argus Tower - Sold

I was pleased with how it came out, but couldn’t figure out what to call it. Then one morning I woke up thinking Io – A Tower for Io.

Well, I guess it could be a model for part of a colony on Jupiter’s moon…But it wasn’t quite right.

Turning to Wikipedia, I read that Zeus turned the nymph Io, one of his many lovers, into a cow to protect her from his wife. But Hera tracked her down and set the hundred-eyed monster Argus Panoptes to keep tabs on her.

How perfect is that?

This lamp’s many eyes shine in all directions, creating romantic light and, um, mythological shadows.
